Melanie Miles Bazil
Commissioner
Melanie Wilcox Miles is a board-certified family law attorney who has served the citizens
of Harris County for over 25 years. She is a native of Houston, Texas and grew up in the third
ward and braeswood areas. After graduating from Bellaire high school, she went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree from Howard University and a law degree from South Texas College of Law Houston.

Melanie is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Houston Bar Association, the Texas
Family Law Section and has supported various Texas State Bar activities during her career,
including becoming board certified in 2011. For most of her career, Melanie has been a fierce advocate and respected trial attorney with a practice focused on complex family law litigation, including custody and divorces. The past several years, Melanie has dedicated her law practice to working with domestic violence victims and assisting underserved communities navigate the legal system.

Melanie is also a passionate activist and serves in several leadership roles in the community. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Houston Texans YWCA and President of the Black Women of Greater Houston Political Action Committee (BWGH-PAC). Melanie chairs the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Civil Service Commission, is the
Secretary of the MacGregor Area Blue Triangle Garden Club, is a senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum, a member of the Port City Links, Inc., and a member of
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Melanie also enjoys her role as an entrepreneur and real estate developer and has over 30 years of experience developing and renovating residential property.

Melanie is the mother of two children.
